 plase I'm having some problem linking a dog with his dam, what can I do?

I'm having the same problem with my pedigree. I've been trying relentlessly to add a dam to a dog, but it refuses to acknowledge she exists when I do! I've deleted and re-added both the dogs and dams pedigree's and still nothing!  Grrrr.......
