kitkat3478

by kitkat3478 on 06 November 2018 - 20:11

My dog got lost, its been over 3 weeks and I cannot find her anywhere. I am so sick and upset over this I cannot think of anything but finding her.
I live in the woods in upstate New York. On a dirt road surrounded by thousands of acres of state for rest.
My Flim Flam almost 8 months old, she is a little Red Sable German Shepherd female. She has been through these woods a lot with me and my other dogs. She escaped my fenced yard and her and a couple my young males went galavanting. The boys came back, she didn t.
I immediately hit the woods with numerous other dogs, we have scoured these woods from one end of the mountain to the other, top to bottom. I have been searching every morning noon and evening for the last three weeks. I have drove mile after mile of back roads, I went through with a megaphone, nothing.
There have been a couple of unconfirmed sightings in the town bordering, I have left clothes, and food everywhere. I find myself sitting on trails that the bears and coyotes travel, crying and terrified sitting there, but what else can I do, I gotta do it.
I have posters and flyers everywhere with a 1000 dollar reward which I ready to increase. I want my dog back badly. There actually nothing I won t do or give to find her.
Anyone know of what else I can do. I am desperate to find her.
Next week deer hunting starts.
I don t know how we can make it through that, bad enough its coyote season.
There not to many locals that don t know I out there looking for her. Any suggestions. I even called a psychic and pet communicator I that desperate to find her.

I'm so sorry, Kit-Kat!

With deer hunting season starting, how about putting up posters in stores that cater to hunters? Might help get her back, or at least save her life, if they make the hunters look twice before shooting that 'coyote'!

Cototes and bears and hunters mistaking her for a coyote....sorry for you. I know your desperation. I had one take off after deer....I called and called. Followed her tracks where she was after deer...her tracks with running deer tracks.
Five miles away, there were people told me they saw her.
She had a hunter orange collar on that I use any time I take my dogs out. Saved her life when a guy in a pickup said he got a bead on her thinking she was a coyote...till he saw the collar.
I had laid a track about three miles long for where I saw her tracks end going into the woods and a field.
The guy in the pickup told me he saw her laying in the middle of the paved road...that was where I had crossed the road, leading to our side...evedently she list the track. He took me to where he saw her get up and run when she saw his truck coming.
There she was, standing next to a pond. I called her and she came up to me like nothing had happened....exactly 48 hours after she had taken off.
Pretty sure she found voles and mice to eat....along side a creek at the edge of woods where I saw her tracks, I found more of her tracks where she had followed the creek, going away from our direction towards home.

I was never so relieved to see a dog...I was worried about coyotes and bears also. She was spayed, so no issue there.

Good luck, but there comes a time after this long....

Oh Kit...I am so sorry! All I can offer are my prayers for you and her from the Pacific Northwest woods...and I hope by some miracle you find her again. Indeed, the worst thing ever.
Can someone with a drone help? But the woods probably make that a no go.
Gosh I am sorry.

Yes, agree...hunting stores are a good idea and a poster pic. Maybe all the sheriff offices too.

add: and facebook posts, if you are on it.

CRAIGSLIST-
Keep an eye on craigslist in your area for anyone selling a young GSD!
And post a LOST GSD announcement on Craigslist under “Community - Pets”, and “lost and found” with a pic and the reward amount.

Add #2: I keep thinking about this...I’m locked out from posting new posts right now so I keep adding to this post.

What about the local SAR group? Maybe they need an exercise and would help.

Horrible situation - I am so sorry, Kitkat!

She escaped from home, that said normally she'd find her way back if possible.

There is a good chance someone found and kept her. In case you didn't already I'd call every vet, every police station, and every rescue or shelter in the surrounding.

It's that sad, I really feel sorry for you, but this nightmare can happen to everybody.

Don't give up-but I am sure you won't.

kitkat, so sorry to hear. same thing happened to a friend of mine when his young dog chased a deer off into several thousand acres of wilderness.

coyotes are the worst threat here.

hoping for the best,

KitKat, somehow I missed this when you put it up, sorry. Got everything crossed that she has found her way back to you by now.
Linda.
