What is the earliest age a puppy can be shipped from Europe to North America. Is rabies vaccination required before shipping. Thanks.

As far as i know 8 weeks no rabies needed i,ve heard of for a pup that young make sure you get proper export papers so it wont be a nightmare with AKC if your wanting AKC on the new pup, and you may have to pay a customs broker money on top of shipping cost and some airlines refuse to take delivery if temps are over 80 degrees at leaving or receiving airport.

You need to know the regulations and laws of the country the puppy is coming into...Also most breeders will send a copy of the Dam's Health Certificate as proof that she has her Rabies Vaccination...

The last pups I imported were in November of 2014. They had to be 10 weeks, no rabies needed, but that has to do with where they were coming from. Germany was their origin. Rabies is not needed from/to certain "safe" countries, ie, "rabies free" or nearly.

I don't know any laws but I contacted a well known Kennel in Germany which I gotten a dog from previously and they told me that they had to hold the dog till 3 months and he did not like holding dogs that long, so he wasn't exporting dogs to USA anymore. A lady from my club had imported a dog from Italy and had to wait till 3 months. She told me some people were putting false birthdates to avoid this but her breeder would not do so. I only know what I have been told but heard the same story twice.

Welzbach, how long ago did you hear that ? I have never heard that Germany has to hold for three months before entering USA , but I haven't had one come over in a few years so maybe a fresh new rule for all I know, perhaps Suzie will read the thread and chime in I think she is from Germany and I,m pretty sure she would know the current laws.

A lot of countries in Europe have this rule since 2/3 years ago, the pup must be 3months so he can have the rabies and then we have to waith more 21/23 days, only after this the dog is free to enter the country wich is ridiculous! Doesn't matter if he's coming from a country who's rabies free.

form holland it is 10 weeks---but it also depends to where the pup is going
