I used ivermectin (available for cattle or sheep) for 30+ years. never an issue and never heartworms in a very heavily infested part of the U.S. It was the active ingredient in the first heartworm meds available and is still used in many.

There are some breeds (collie and collie types) that can have adverse reactions.

Dosage rates for dogs can be found online. A 50ml vial will treat a lot of dogs.

Probably best to check with vet first. if a dog already has heartworms, killing them off quickly can kill the dog (blockage).

I know of ivermectin, but will that also traet the dog after it is infected, we can do labtest to see if dog is only infected or has actual worms already

problem is that overhere there is (almost) no heartworm, so not interesting for any company to get medication approoved

I also use ivermectin, but in the 250ml bottle as a preventative for heartworm and as a general dewormer. I believe it can be used to treat heartworm, but the process is designed to stop further worms from developing, then waiting out the death (age limit) of the adult ones already present. There may be a lot more to it. Never had a dog treated for it.

Many vets in my area have had excellent results from giving the dog an initial 30 day course of doxycycline & at the same time start using Advantage Multi monthly on the dogs (or the Pro Heart shot-same active ingredient as Advantage Multi). Heartworm check in 6 months or at a year are showing clear.

Some of the Heartworm Preventatives many be different in how they work but "Ivermectin" kills the Heartworm larvae therefore it doesn't have a Residual but it kills worms that are already there...
I live in Florida and we use a Heartworm Preventative 12 months a year...We lived in Michigan for a few years and they only use a Preventative during the Warm/Hot months...approximately June thru Oct...
I used to use "Ivermectin" but now I use other means to control Heartworms...

In the Czech republic NexGard Spectra should be available. If not, try Milbemax, milbemicin or Milprazon. Before you try any product,a heartworm test should be done because if the dog is positive, then first thing is to get rid of the adult worms slowly

my question was treatment, not prevention, I am aware of prevention medication thank you
