Wow - 29 pages, never thought it would end up with so many contributions, even if it sometimes strayed a little from original intent, lol.

In summary - Genetics, proper selection of dog for LE K9, and correct/good training will ensure that any dog, regardless of sport or other foundation, will become an effective K9.

IMO, having a person who can accurately and quickly assess a dog, and see what genetic abilities said dog has, is invaluable to any LE K9 purchase/training program. People like Gustav and Duke have proven their ability in assessing dogs, and ensure that K9 programs start with the best possible candidates. LE K9 programs world-wide need people like them to give the best start, the rest is up to training and handling.

well, it started about dog's transition from sport app to real work and did proceed into discussion about the qualities, which such dog supposed to have.
i guess the quantity of contributed post, in general do shows dissatisfactory state of the breeding today and concern of those, who cares.

stomped upon this video.
looks interesting albeit lil'bit dramatical with all that tunes and repeats.
somewhere in Ukraine, club provides at old, abandoned plant very good exercises for memebers and their dogs. different breeds, even one doberman, who did remind that someone in here few days ago asked about a decent specimen for breeding purpose. seems they are still available at least somewhere in former eastern block.
i guess video again will have access problem, so if it won't work in here, just follow link direct to YouTube

I can see the video when I click on the link . I have seen these people train and compete on videos before. I like what they are doing even though they are often ridiculed by people who train different way. What i like is a variety of breeds doing personal protection. They always push the dog to their limit. That is good.

I have as well observed previous videos of this type training. Without a doubt an awesome way to ensure the dog will take the fight to the quarry!

Here this is what I am talking about. I love this dog. it is a "real" dog doing sport. Yet he was disqualified, This is how we are losing genes of genetically "real' dogs:

well after 30 pages, and opinion from someone who runs dogs in circles and no, did not get dizzy (big circles).Teeth Smile

each dog stands on it's own merits, certainly influenced by background and genetics.

experienced LE/Mil trainers can recognize traits needed, even with no pedigree.

I can name dog from many generations ASL with success in LE in US.

it's the dog and what it got from it's genetics. and the ability of some humans to recognize and develop the dog.

jmo,

Rik

Prager, is this Bourbon?

You need to think different-
Without sport and events like this nobody would know this dog, and nobody would breed to this dog.

Only on trials people are able to see and compare dogs-and a "fail" because of lack of obedience is the best Marketing a dog can get...

Whereas the same dog playing around
- in the owner's backyard
- trained locally or
- in active duty
will get very few to none breedings-

That's how we loose genes...Not by participating on big events.
Think about it.
