If you want a free and powerful meat grinder, just look inside your dogs mouth. They have teeth for a reason. ;)

8lu3d09, so true. If you are going to feed raw, why take away one of the most easily seen benefits? Stick to young chickens and avoid the weight bearing ungulate bones. You won’t see those white shiny, healthy teeth by using a grinder.

I’m not feeding anything but ground bones !! I have limits ! Ground bones are still better then the kibble he could be eating ,,😊

Question ~ Butcher wants to know what type of organs I want ground into the chicken ???

That is awesome your butcher has green tripe available! If I had access to fresh green tripe, I would prefer that over the canned stuff. I’ve been buying it by the can, which is not perfect I know but it’s what I have access to right now. It’s super stinky and the dogs KNOW what’s coming as soon as the can is slightly punctured as you start peeling the lid. Lol They love their green tripe for sure.

AlbertaSable, can't you buy it minced and frozen ? That's the way my mentor used to find green tripe easiest to use and store. Maybe they don't sell it wholesale in the States, I don't think she ever had trouble with supply in the UK.

Hundmutter, I just bought a whole cow in September. I made sure to tell the butcher to include all bones (my soup bones and the dogs recreational bones) but didn’t even think to inquire about the tripe then. I’ve been buying it by the can/case for so long, it didn’t even occur to me to check if that was a possibility 😰 A while ago, I checked with local supermarkets and was unable to find a source for unbleached tripe. I haven’t been actively looking for it in a long time though. I will contact the butcher we had process our cow and find out now though.

She used to buy a box or boxes at a time, containing separate packs of the frozen raw tripe ( I think maybe 2lb packs ?) at the Pet Food wholesale warehouse where she bought kibble. Then thaw a pack (or two) depending on numbers of dogs to be fed, prior to adding it to their meals. [Never went near a butcher or supermarket.]
I used to use canned, i.e. cooked, tripe, in the same way as an addition to kibble, (and I still do), where I worked simply because I didn't have access to a freezer for my employer's many dogs.

Ruger, organ meats Beau loves are chicken hearts, kidneys, and liver. I never tried any other kind. Mojo, will only eat cooked liver, it must be a textural thing. Mojo generally likes only one of the freshest of the fresh, raw chicken legs. Or the skin only of any kind. He much prefers his kibble with a fine vintage of canned wet food mixed in. Or, any cooked bones raided from the trash of any kind. Woe are we if the trash isn't taken out when there are bones in it! Both dogs are active and healthy, aged five and 12. Beau was weaned on raw and Mojo has been kibble fed mixed with canned, his whole life.

A freezer is a must for affordable raw feeding. I feed both whole prey and frankenprey. There's tons of resources on raw feeding that can help with sourcing organs and tripe if you don't have access to a real butcher or they can't provide some things. There's an old Yahoo group I was a member of that was super. I'm not on facebook but I'd look there also. If there's a raw feeding co-op in your area, take advantage of that and join. You'll have to use Google. Co-ops are a great way to raw feed very affordably and you can often source alternative proteins that way.

For hard to find in my area organ meats and fresh frozen green tripe I use rawfeedingmiami.com, hare-today.com, and mypetcarnivore.com. All of these will ship FedEx or UPS overnight or 2nd day to USA, not sure about Canada. If you live on their trucking route, some will also deliver to a central drop off location where you can meet the truck and pick up your order. Much more cost effective over FedEx. Everything is shipped in styrofoam coolers with ice packs. I've never received anything not cold and frozen although in the heat of summer not everything would be a rock hard brick. Each shipping box holds about 50 pounds of product and a full box is the way to go as far as cost and knowing you will have plenty on hand. Things do get out of stock. I usually place a full box order from 2 places every six months or so. I'll have plenty of tripe, organ meats, fun to eat stuff and variety to last about 8 months from those 2 boxes. I never run out of or have to worry about finding things.

I prefer raw feed miami's packaging, it's really, really nice but they are a bit pricier. They usually have a super selection of whole organ and fun items like fish skins, rec bones and esophagus. My pet carnivore has more grind products available including an organ/tripe mix. Grinds come in plastic containers like you get soup in from the chinese food chain places.

Canadians can try checking the directory at rawfoodsources.com for people that can ship.
There's also perfectly rawsome but I have not used them as of yet.

Anyone interested in switching to raw really should join a group or talk with someone experienced that can help them get started. Raw is not hard to do but done wrong it can be one of the worst diets to feed your dog.
