☕️ A nice Columbian brew for this morning! Crisp blue skies 🌌 but the Arctic chill is still here.

I don't know why I bother writing grocery lists.

I decide before I go shopping, I only want to buy 12 things, so I can do the express checkout. I mean really, if I had some celery already I wouldn't be going to the grocery store in the first place. I'd make do. But I can't make stuffing without celery. I don't see how. I don't know if there would ever be an acceptable substitute for celery in stuffing. Maybe someone knows what that is, but it isn't me.

And then I see the chicken thighs are on sale: Buy 1 get 2 Free. Or, cans of tomato products 10 for a $1 each. Might as well get three boxes of cereal while I'm here. That kid could eat cereal for every meal, if I let him. Can't go wrong picking up some different cheeses, too. Wraps and some taco fixings, why not? That's an easy dinner. I almost forgot the kid had a tickle in his throat. I must buy him OJ for the vitamin C. The next thing I know, I have no room in the cart anymore. I can barely get past the middle of the refrigerator section when I remember I have no unsalted butter. I hate it when I am following a recipe and it says to use unsalted butter, and all I have is salted butter. Why do they put the Cinnamon rolls right next to the butter? In the cart they go, because I decide, I want to be prepared if the college kid comes home I will have these. If he smells cinnamon baking that is one of the sure ways to get him up before noon.

At this grocery store they give out Gold coins for savings every now and then when I hit some benchmark of spending, or whatever. I have no idea what that is. I seem to have a talent for setting things off, it must be my magnetic personality. Invariably, though, when the cashier asks me at the end of the checkout, "Do you have any Gold coins?" I realize, yes, I do. They will be sitting on the kitchen counter at home. Half of a dozen of them, too. And then, if I do happen to remember the Gold coins, like today, (I actually had two of them), I say to the cashier, "Do you want these?" And she gives me a wan smile and says, while I am looking at my $267 bill total (for twelve items, ahem, remember?), "Oh, uh, I mean, well, you didn't buy anything that you can use them for....."

Typically, it never fails. Oh, and when I get home, nobody will be around either. Just the dogs. And I will have to bring all these bags inside, by myself. That, too.

I knew there was a reason I'd made a grocery list with only twelve items!

ML. Guess what! I never made the stuffing (with which I was planning to stuff pork chops) because my DH has a toothache and didn't want to chew much. So, I made a ground beef tomato sauce and pasta, instead. LoL

I have to make the pork chops tonight though, they will go bad if I don't. Hopefully his dentist will help him out today...yank the tooth or a script. He needs implants anyway, what's one more?

I am so glad I have all my teeth! LOL

☕️☕️😁

Hi Bee,

Love the ground beef with tomato sauce and of course parmesan cheese...easy to make also.

There is an ex-marine in the same nursing home as my wife, tough as nails, goes outside every morning around 6 AM in his wheel chair. Even when it's 0 degrees out, only comes in to eat. He is always wearing a USMC coat.

Last week I was ordering a few things online and right next to what I was ordering were 2 USMC wool winter pull over hats. With the USMC insignia on them. So I bought them and went outside yesterday and gave them to him.

You would have sworn I gave him the winning powerball ticket he was so happy. He was going all over the place showing everyone the hats.

I was laughing and thinking that was probably the best $10.00 I ever spent. It made me really feel good just seeing how happy he was.

Stay warm..

ML. You are always so thoughtful when it comes to helping others. Sometimes it is just a little thing, that random act of kindness that will make someone's day. We all need a little love, now and then.

Trying to motivate myself for the mountain of laundry that was dumped on me, this rainy day! Some letter writing, bills, etc. Trying not to think too much on the Bill Paxton death news from yesterday. Sounds like he went in for the same operation type as my father's upcoming surgery!  http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/06/health/bill-paxton-death-stroke/index.html

Oh, and the pork chops and stuffing were good. I soaked cranberries and golden raisins in bourbon, toasted pine nuts and added those to the stuffing that I served on the side. Decided to only braise the chops and make a reduction sauce from the browned pan bits. Roasted some golden beets, too. Never did that before. Will definitely do it again, easy and tasty!

Hi Bee,

Sounds like the family got a good meal last night. Was hubby able to eat the pork chops? I don't think he would want to miss that meal. Sounded great. LOL

At least it warmed up a bit, and you don't have to shovel rain.

by beetree on 07 March 2017 - 15:03

Yes, but he had to chew only on the one side. I didn't over cook the chops, so that helped, too. Lol He is calling the dentist today.... they were closed yesterday.

🤓

I saw that my weather ap has snowflakes showing for the weekend? 🤔
