Hi Everyone,
I was at a french Ring Trial Yesterday, and i kept on hearing that german shepherds do not do well in ring? which i thought was crazy!!!
what do you all think?
does anyone know any gsds titled in ring?
This is the sport that i was looking to get into, as malinois are beautiful, they are just not the dog for me.

thanks in advance for your opinions!

I have a Ring 1 GSD that I have titled myself...and for your info, here's a very nice female, Ring 2.

Of course GSD can do well in Ring Sports.

But just in case, Ring titled GSD can't be shown in Sieger shows in the working class and they can't be breed surveyed in Canada.

But that's possible in Europe...

Do a Google and list search on
du val des Hurles vent. kennel. Probably the best for French Ring GSD's
There are a couple in Colorado. One just earned his Mondio Ring Brevet last weekend

destiny

many of the the french dogs or dogs with severel RING titled dogs are very driven and are much more of a biter than most of the only schh titeled dogs they remind you much more like litle malinois pups biting haing on to everything they have naturel drives for bite work and love to use their mouths more than schh dogs , many of them you dont have to teach to bite they love the bite they are very driven by prey

I was talking to a breeder here he breeds working lines gsd the usual only west german lines he breed to a french dog vasco du val des hurles and this was his first breeding to a dog with severel RING titled dogs behind him , he told me that this litter was very different from all his other litters , biting the hell out everything , you could almost not pet the pups they where biting ,biting biting, hell like a litle mal he was amased by the bite at their love of the bite thats what ring dogs produce more dogs that love to bite naturel drive for the bite

so I always thought in order to do breed survey you needed IPO1/SchH1, do some european countries admit FR1 instead? They don't allow it in Mexico.

that it true for Denmark as well you can only breed with dogs that have schh/IPO 1 or PH and same rules as for germany but the dog he breed has that he is schh titled  but he is breed from france with alot of french lines
he was in Denmark for stud but the stupid danish did not want to bred a french dog that had RING titles so he was sold again they are so stupid the danish

myret...I've seen litters of pups acting the way you describe....the sport the dog does has nothing to do with the pups. It's in the genes....:-)

the sport or should you say the breeding in different sport creates different types of dogs selected for breeding  makes different kinds of traits in the breeding I know its nots the sport but sport makes different types of dogs because certain dogs are selected for breeding
maybe this guy explains it better than I do

Another dumb thread on the same ol topic. A GSD can compete in ringsport if that is what you choose to train it to do. Malinois have an edge in the agility side of the sport. GSDs have competed at high levels overseas for many years. To make a blanket statement that schH GSDs have more aggression then prey oriented ring dogs is just not true. Look at Obelix or Jeff Ohelsen's dog Basco and tell me they are prey dogs. It's just a bit harder with fight driven dogs to get the outs and control during a 30 minute level 3 routine. Unless one of you have trained it, you just don't have a clue.

A "Schh" vs "ring" GSD, that is silly, it's not the sport that makes a good dog, it can show better his ablillities but French GSD are not better than the others! ;-)
Here's a Schh GSD doing well in Mondio:

I never wrote that all gsd is prey driven I wrote that many of them have alot more prey drive than many schh dogs even spoke to the breeder of du val des hurles vent he has bred dogs for years and he wrote me that the many of the german lines or ordinary wl lines would never do well i RING

I could not care less if there are a few wl dogs in RING it is not majority of schh that could do well then you talk to Jeff Oehlsen he will not get a schh dog why do you think he gets his dogs in france if the schh are as good????

this is not a thread about good and bad sport but the schh people get offended when you say french dogs are better at RING sport than most schh dogs and maybe schh dogs are better at schh

I quote
schh dogs the majority would never do well in RING they just dont have the drive it takes and I dont want to see the few that are during RING it is not the majority of the gsd that can do it

same with malinois many of the only schh mals are not not as good and driven as the RING mals they have changed to during the breeding for mals that do well in schh again not all but the majority

malinois have more than the agility for an edge they have alot more drive witch is important in most sports

if you dont believe that sports can create different type of dogs then dont believe it that your opinion like I wrote before I was talking to a breeder that does not much about RING sport but in his litter with a dog with ring titled behind him he saw different traits in the pups than in his other litters and he is not a RING guy but he saw some pups that where alot more driven and biting than his other litters they had to learn to bite so dont beoffended by this
