When you sell a dog, do you use some kind of national sales contract or something else, imposed by the breeding club? What do you give to the purchaser as warranty on HD? many thanks for your info

If one of my pups would ever end up with HD, then I would have the dog have another x-ray (my cost) to confirm and I would give back a full refund after the dog was fixed. The buyer may keep the dog.  I would do this as long as it fell within the time period.

But what IS 'the time period', John?

I give 2 years to get the x-ray done. So the pup is 8 weeks old when picked up plus 24 months, that will give the new owners plenty of time to have the x-ray done and be registered with OFA, PennHip, or SV. A lot of vets don't know much about GSDs and will tell you they have HD without even taking an x-ray. Hope that helps, John Kennedy

Both of my girls have a hip guarentee. Up to 2 years from the date that I took over they'll give full replacement. One will spay the dog at their cost, and either full refund or replacement of the dog. The other just will refund the money I spent on the dog.

Hey, John, pretty good...how's things with you?  Beastly hot in your part of the country, I see...not quite as bad up here.  The storms of this past week missed you, I hope?  Seems to have stayed mostly coastal...

I knew *your* contract covered hips for two years, but thought it would be best if you added that, 'cause I've seen more than a few contracts that claim to cover hip soundness, but which are only valid for 1 year after the purchase...which, of course, isn't sufficient for someone buying an 8 week old puppy and wanting to use OFA certification.

I agree, 1 year is not enough time.

The storms did miss us, pretty hot on Thursday and Friday though. Things are going well, as to be expected. The dogs still think that the koi pond is theirs for the taking......lol.

Kind regards,

John Kennedy
