valK I think you are mixing PP dog with area protection dog.
pP or personal or family protection or estate dogs differ from LE dogs.
1)LE dogs main task is to 'hunt" chase and track and search for people who are running away and that is done via prey drive - . LE dog also has to protect his handler and that is an important part of the training but not the primary purpose of police K9.
2) PP personal protection dogs are dogs which also use prey but defense is of paramount importance. It is because PP dog in contrast to LE dog mainly deals with BG coming towards the dog. Thus defense, natural protectiveness and territoriality are probably more important than prey in PP or family dog.
3)Area protection dogs probably cause of misconception of what is PP family dog . The area protection dog is often a-social dog who can be handled only by one or 2 handlers. They are extremely territorial dogs trained and bred to attack anyone who enters the perimeter. This is not a dog in a category of  PP or LE dog AT ALL even though PP dog may have to protect the area.
4/ estate dog is a dog who is trained to protect a person or family and territory of their estate. There is some but not very significant difference between 2) and 4). except that some PP dogs - like security dog do not need to be proficient in area protection - example Hospital security dogs.

where you saw it?
as you call, area protection dog, is just a dog, more known as watchdog. it may or may not be trained, which with proper traits in dog wouldn't prevent the dog to do his job - to guard assigned territory.

unlike watchdog, protection dog not destined for guarding territory but to guard and protect a person, independently of location. it could be in office, at home, in the public, during the move on feet or transports through not familiar to dog surrounding, etc.
as well, dog should be trained not only react on assault when it happens but to assess possible threat and prevent actual unfolding of it.

nothing of this is a necessary for watchdog.

I thought this thread was about properly trained dogs.

sure, but described earlier "protection" training isn't just hypothetical projection but actual happenings, which becomes known in masses and do impact perception of "protection dogs" among general public.

You think masses know anything about protection training to have ANY perception what so ever. Where is that perception coming from? that is what this is all about.

Valk asks: where you saw it?

I admit I have no clue what is "shadowed guarding" though.

But  see it here:

potection dog aimed more for shadowed guarding and to prevent perpetrators to reach their targets. object of guarding usualy not a dog's handler but the person, assigned to be protected by dog in different environment/situations, regardless availability or absence of dog handler. foremost such dogs must be very intelligent and be abile to work independently.

Maybe I just do not understand the wording correctly. I am sorry but to me the sentence seems to be garbled. Sorry.

In any case, you are mixing guarding and protecting.

While grammatically synonymous, guarding is usually used for area and protection is usually meant of a person. At least that is how I see it is generally used.

I am not necessarily disagreeing with wha you are saying but I just do not understand the verbiage.

"shadowed guarding" - dog constantly remain next to person, designated to be guarded and protected when need arise, by that dog.
at same time this dog shouldn't bother anyone, be distracted by anything or create any kind of inconvenience.

i don't.
moreover i noticed even people, for long time involved with breed, don't have much clue what is protection dog.
