Ground turkey from the grocery store is not even fit for human consumption.

Ruger, they need to have the bone ground up with the muscle meat. Add organs.

I buy ground beef with teipe, liver, bone ground up together for preg bitches and while lactating. Also give to pups for first solid food. The place butchers for dog food exclusively...no downers used.

Joanro~ I don’t eat any meat out of chubs lol
I barely eat meat at all if I think about it too much!
I like a nice clean fillet mignon and honesty you can keep the rest as far as I’m concerned!! I

But as far a feeding it to Damien occasionally, what’s your concern with the ground turkey from the store? Don’t be cryptic just speak right up 😆,,,,

Remember though I’ve just mixed 4 lbs of this ground turkey with $80 in other ingredients so I can promise you he’s going to eat every last bit of it!!😉

Joanro~ I see you added to your post after I responded... thank you for the added explanation 😊

I won’t be buying ground meat from the store much longer. I am looking for a suitable grinder to make my own with the bones !!🍖🍗🍖🍗

Yes, but that was before I saw you post :)

Ground turkey spoils very fast, especially when the grnders have not been cleaned thoroughly, and frequently during the process...like every half hour to prevent deadly microbe build up.
When I was grindly cases of chicken for my dogs, it would take a couple hours. So I would have to interrupt the procedure and take the grinder apart, thoroughly wash the components, because all that stuff is prime for growing stuff you don't want your dog to eat.
Oh, and another thing...wear rubber gloves...don't touch any of that with bare hands. A break in the skin will become a full fledged infection contaminated by raw chicken.

Also, a dog or puppy that has just eaten raw chicken and happens to break the skin on your hand playing, you are at risk of developing life threatening infection.
Happened to a friend of mine...dog was playing right after eating raw chicken, caused a break in the skin on top of their hand. A couple hours later, their hand swelled up...I told them they needed to go to the doctor pronto...they thought it wasn't different than a bee sting.?.NO! I said it's bacteria causing the hand to blow up,not bee venom ! Next day, they had a red line running up their arm, ended up three days in the hospital with iv drip with antibiotic concoction for life threatening infection which became septic!!!

👆I here Orijen is a good kibble 😩

by joanro on 06 November 2018 - 17:11

Not as good as Victor Nutra Pro, or Victor High Pro Plus for Dogs and Puppies.

DARWINS has the most balanced and nutritious raw diets'  premade and ready to go.  They will ship right to you.

You can order on line.

Also check chewy.com their service is fantastic with good choice options for raw, prices, kibble, honest kitchen, etal.  I used to use K9 kraving, don't know if they are still making foods or not, but good premade prices also just to give you some options.  Sometimes you cannot get to the meat(s) market to make you own so really liked to have premade on hand just in case.  JMHO  Nan

I would use FROMM; PETCUREAN, FARMINA before I would use Orijen again, also nice to have kibble on hand.

Joanro: what do you think about the citric acid in the Victor brand dog foods? Isn't it supposedly a contributor to "BLOAT". Its in every one of their formulas. Ugh.

by joanro on 06 November 2018 - 18:11

How far down the list is it?

In six decades of having dogs, I have never had one bloat! Ever!
And I have made a living with my dogs working cattle, performing in rodeos, and other venues,

by Nans gsd on 06 November 2018 - 18:11

Yeah I knew that about you Joanro and totally admire all your hard work and of course your experience with the animals.

The citric acid is 2nd to last ingredient on their list so it is down towards the end. I personally have not had a dog bloat either BUT don't want to start especially because of their diet. And of course is it really a factor, no one seems to really know. Sooo given that don't think I can worry about it now. I really am also contemplating raw but experienced my older bitch puking up or pooping out a WHOLE chicken leg drum stick size. I about had a cow. So the grinder is a good idea just don't know if I want to go to that trouble and have to buy the grinder and be able to get the meats. Which when I fed raw for about 5 years about 4 years ago I had to rely on grocery store meats as butchers in this area are scarce and couldn't find or get response from local hunters.

Anyway have a great day. Nan     PS:  more puppy pics please.  Thx
