Can anybody give me a good resource on how to read a pedigree?
I just bought a puppy and I have information on her lineage from this site.
example:

HD-SV: HD a-normal (a1)

thank you

HD-SV: HD a-normal (a1) - means Hip Displacia - sent to  SV-Bundessiegerzuchtschau ( http://www.sv-bszs.de/) is the German -German Shepherd Dog organization and a-normal (a1) means the hips are normal with out any sign of displacia and the dog is recomanded for breeding.

a2 - means fast normal - meaning the dog is good for breeding etc

a3 - still allowed for breeding but some breeders dont like to see an a3

Likewise ED stands for Elbow Displacia

OFA - stands for Orthopedic Foundation for Animals - who certifies the hips & elbows etc

KKL1 means - Breed Survery - Korung - where they test the dog for its abilities etc

Hope this helps.

All the best with your puppy. If you can post the link to your puppy's pedigree, someone may be able to let you know the details on possibly why the sire & dam were bred, to improve what, to continue whose bloodline and what are they famous for etc.

Sorry, but I can not get the print any darker in my above post,,If you can see the faint print it covers much of what you might see on a pedigree..
