Haz, do you know anything about Truce? Or who's worked him, who owns him, what he's done, anything?? Just wondering what you're basing your opinion on. You make it sound like he's an untitled backyard pet with your comments. He earned his SchH3 at over 9 years of age, IIRC (correct me, someone, if I'm wrong). He's not "just living to 12" he is thriving and in excellent shape and still siring healthy litters at 12. Sorry, but longevity IS important. Survival of the fittest should come into play when choosing breeding pairs. Only the strongest, hardiest, healthiest dogs should be bred, imo. And I don't mean clear joints; I mean the total picture should be strong and vigorous into old age, free of nagging health issues like allergies, needing special diets, etc. Too few people focus on extreme health and too many focus on extreme drive.

It's not that I'm super knowledgeable about him or anything or even a huge fan, just can't see what you're faulting about the dog.

I'm in IL. You're quite welcome, seriously. I never turn down visitors. You can even test Grandma for all I care. She won't disappoint, that I assure you. I don't have much video but I can certainly provide names of those who have worked/tested the dogs.

Thank you Jenni. I looked at Truce's pedigree and personally like it better than Troas. I have always loved the z Pohranicni Straze bloodlines (on the "other' side). The fact Truce got his SchH3 at over 9 years of age is remarkable and is a testament to his health. My husband trains English Setter birddogs. They are extremely athletic dogs with great endurance and classy on point at that. As many of his "healthy" English Setter males aged so did their endurance on the field particularly around the ages past 9 years. So it is truly amazing what Truce accomplished at 9. To me, it is even more amazing that he is "cutting the mustard so to speak" by still siring healthy litters at 12 years of age. He must be in great health and should I dare say on this thread how handsome he is!

http://en.working-dog.eu/dogs-details/2968990/Baylei-vom-Eisenhaus Srfwheat, I don't know what your goal is with the breeding, but this is my Truce daughter; granted, she takes a lot after her mother's side....but she is not for the faint of heart. She is tough. Athleticism is absolutely incredible- and I am picky about agility. She's a true athlete, healthy, super intelligent, but not easy to handle. She improves with age, however. Her breeder is on this board under Eisenhaus.

Jennii78 - I am looking for the same qualities in a dog as you have in your pup out of Truce (courageous, athletic, agile. smart). According to your above link, she is only around 6 months or so. I am guessing that she will get easier to handle with age. She is a very nice-looking pup and with the above characteristics (hope I don't get blasted for saying she is nice-looking - lol) you have a jewel. You can view my dogs by typing their names Seattle Von Der Gauss and Sargeant Vom Haus Weizen (wheat in German) on this database. Seattle was a year and half when her picture taken, and she is from a military background. Sarge was one year old when his picture was taken (almost 3 now) and has filled out (heavier with muscles) as he runs, swims, etc. for miles everyday with me (on the Gator). He is also out of a military background. They are both obedience trained by my husband, and I help work them. I thought I would breed Seattle to another dog after she turns two and (hopefully) passes her OFA test. I am new to this business as my husband and I have mainly bred English Setters for the sport of hunting and field trials. I had two German Shepherds around 35 years ago and fell in love with the breed. My daughter bought Sarge for me (Christmas present) when he was 8 weeks old. We bought Seattle when she was a year old. I am getting pretty old so I don't know if I would be able to campaign my German Shepherds. If we decide to do this I would most likely have to hire someone to help me. I have a strong admiration for this breed, and am personally not interested in showing them at all. I have researched/interested in primarily the athletic working, old DDR/Czech bloodlines. My male is a natural retriever, herds our horses, can search and find my husband/grandchildren when they hide from him on the back of our 80 acres after scenting an object their scents are on. He is a natural in that area. He found my husband hiding when he was 4 months old. I've had two knee replacements and neck fusion so it would be difficult for me to pursue that dream with him. His hips also OFA graded excellent and elbows normal. I am just very interested in the sport and admire the working dogs so much. I may breed Sarge to Seattle at some point, but thought about bringing in some new blood by breeding her to a different sire since a lot of the same dogs are in their pedigrees.

Jenni, last year I watched a 9 year old SL bitch earn her IPO 3 and recieve a pronounced rating. Her grips were embarassing, her guarding was barely adequate and her overall demeanor was nervy. Ofcourse the judge was an SV show judge who is known for passing just about everything with a heartbeat.
I suppose she looked and acted healthy enough. Earning the title alone means squat.
Show me vids of the dog, lets see his results at medium to higher level trials. Even just a bitework or obedience vid?
This information should be readily available in this day and age. The fact that it isnt is very telling for me.

Haz, I don't personally care about Truce or what you think about video you can't find. That wasn't really my point. In fact, that wasn't my point at all.

Regarding video, I have no idea whether it's out there or not, to be honest. The dog is 12. When he was in his prime, everyone wasn't aware that they were obligated to Youtube every activity they did with their dog so some internet blowhard (general sense of "internet blowhard" not you, personally, Haz) would believe the dog deserved to be fed. I don't care about video; I trust the word of people I respect who know the dog *in the flesh* and have *worked the dog and its offspring* a whole lot more than a video that would not be online if the owner didn't think it was flattering. Videos lie even more than pictures and I just don't care much about them. I can barely sit through most of them because they simply don't usually show me what I really want to know in many cases. They are great if you don't trust the seller to send you the dog you paid for or an overseas transaction, but I find them virtually useless in person to person transactions where there are handfuls of reputable names willing to vouch for the dog(s). I can make an incredible dog look bad or I can make a very mediocre dog look fantastic if I only capture the right few seconds or alter the speed of the video, or angle, or whatever.

The fact that you don't know anything about him or his owners or the breeder of my dog (might take a quick look at what Eisenhaus produced...), but are willing to run down a dog you know nothing about is rather telling, too.

If you must know, I bought my dog because of her mother, actually, and her breeder, and the qualities he and others I respect have seen in her. Truce being the sire was a bonus that I thought would complement well and who can knock a 12 year old natural breeder? Except you, I mean? LOL. I'll take another card in the deck stacked in favor of longevity any day. The pedigree is unusual and I saw what I thought to be an interesting and potentially very good combination in terms of balance.  Anyone who knows bloodlines well enough could look at that ped and probably guess what I was hoping for with the cross. So far, so good.

I understand your point, Haz,  and did from the beginning; I just didn't feel it was relevant to my post and suggestion of using Truce.  I merely posted an alternative to the OP that was a better choice in my opinion, which was based not just on hearsay, but on experience with offspring. I apologize if you no longer feel real experience with living dogs is as relevant as Youtube. I must've missed a memo. I'll try to make note and do better next time. Shades Smile Teeth Smile

Oops, sorry Mr. Darcy; I wrote that last night and didn't submit, apparently. Feel free to delete my post if you feel it's fueling the fire. I have no hard feelings against Haz at all; I just think my suggestion was valid and there is nothing wrong with a good looking dog who happens to be a good worker and also is strong and vigorous in advanced age.

I totally agree and it gets so tiresome this "show me video", go look for video if you're so keen, shouldn't be hard in this day and ageWink Smile
