Good evening folks. I have a question that some may be able to answer. I have a 14 month old GSD that has had the Preliminary Hip/Elbow tests done. Hips came back -good hip/joint confirmation and the elbows came back dysplastic. My question is, the pup who was just tested is going through a bad bout of pano and was unsure if panosantisis can affect the tests finding. It just so happens that the pups pano shifted a few days before appointment from back legs to front elbows meaning upon being tested pano was present. I would like to hear some thoughts on this from folks who have any experience. I do plan on having the pup tested again at 2 years of age.

not a vet, have dealt with pano several times in the past. in those cases it involved the long bones and showed up there on the xrays.

I have never heard of it causing bad elbows but maybe some others will comment.

also there are different reasons for a bad elbow. if they didn't seal (UAP) then they are not going to at this point. also it's not likeley that if the joint is poorly formed that it will improve. probably not what you wanted to hear. and again keep in mind this is just my experience.

good luck,
Rik

Dysplasia is not pano nor related to pano. Absolutely nothing to do with it. Sorry your pup has elbow DJD. It's very painful and debilitating for dogs.

IMO there is no need for another test. It's not going to go from elbow dysplasia to "good" or "excellent." The dog has elbow dysplasia, and that's the sad truth of it.
