I can't imagine how that test could provide a pedigree. I can see it stating the origin of the dog, possibly East or West Germany, Czech, but even that seems to be a reach,
Are they going on the start of that particular breed, there just really know way to get the pedigree, not really past 5-6 generations.
the fact that they link up with Cornell seems to add credibility to their product and makes for a nice sales pitch.
Have any of you ever researched, Cornell's RESEARCH? WHO does in fact check the accuracy of such researchers?
They are a research facility, and a school meant to teach the latest advances in veterinary medicine but yet they themselves don't follow the guidelines set down by the American Veterinary Association.
Seems a bit hypocritical if you ask me. it seems their end results of research leans towards those that contribute the most to the research. BIG MONEY THERE.
sorry a bit off topic, just trying to open the eyes of some to check these claims out before sending money for answers that can't be answered, not that easily.
[and, as far as inheritable problems, there are so many problems plaguing certain breeds, yet tons and tons of research are yet to identify the gene that carries them, but yet they are still called hereditary and genetic]

I agree with you. I do not believe that it can provide a pedigree because all dogs have not been DNA tested. Just saw it though and was wondering if anyone knew anything about them. I am by no means an expert on DNA, but since so many breeds have been created from other breeds in the past 100 years, I don't see how there can be markers to tell which breed they are let alone the pedigree. I just thought that I would throw it out here and see what people had to say about it.

Couple of pieces of online info about canine DNA ancestry tests:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-565800/200-time-ancestral-DNA-test

and

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p058xjqm

First is 'old news' from 2008; second was broadcast 4 days ago, and will play for the next 21 days.

It look as if the Yahoo story got it a little off... a check of the Embark website shows they test for the specific breed(s) of the dog, specific disease/defect markers common to specific breeds, and specific traits (coat color, inbreeding/genetic diversity, etc.). The product information for breeders doesn't claim to determine pedigree.

There is also information for veterinarians: http://try.embarkvet.com/veterinarians/

Main site: https://embarkvet.com/

The Embark site shows a slightly discounted breeder price, plus there are a couple of places that allegedly have a coupon.

Ejko Janarko is not a sable. Definitely all black. Her pic on PDB just shows her with her "getting ready to shed" coat. As the coat dies, it turns brownish.

It's possible that the dam, Ejko, is a dominant black. I didn't know that those bloodlines had dominant black in it, but you do see a line of solid blacks going back behind Ejko.

Testing the sable puppy wouldn't tell you whether Ejko was dominant black, though, because she wouldn't have the dominant black gene (or she would be solid black).
