This is such a sad story - can you help? Macon, Ga A homeless man has been offered a place to live BUT they will not allow his dog he has had for 14 years !He will not take the offer unless his dog will be safe! He will not bring her to a shelter! Dog is well behaved! The dog is located  in Macon, Georgia since this is from where the email was sent. Contact info below. I received this from Charli Stinson" cstinson@pstel.net Georgia Canine Rescue and Rehabilitation, Inc 478-271-GCRR Cheryl Wadsworth wrote: I'm going to tell you about David and Missy. David was an over the road truck driver and Missy was his German Shepard co-pilot. She has been with David since she was a puppy approx 14 yrs! David left his job as a truck driver to take care of his mother who had Alzheimer's 6-7 yrs ago. He took care of his mother with financial help from his brothers and sister until she passed in December of last year. When she passed all help from family stopped. David's CDL LICENSE is no longer valid and since his mother death he has no home, no job prospects, and therefore no funds to take care of himself or Missy! They have eaten from dumpsters on many occasions! I am begging you to accept Missy into your program. She has had 1 owners us well trained and very docile. David has been offered a home at the expense of taking her to the pound and hoping for the best! He steadfastly refuses to place her in the pound because she doesn't deserve to die just because he can't afford to take care of her anymore. Or because she is an older dog. David's greatest fear is that she will be put down so that he will have a place to live. He has agreed to give Missy to a no kill shelter and come live with my bf and I as long as Missy has s chance at a good home. I would allow her at my home but my landlord has a strict policy that all pets must weight less than 25 lbs. Missy is over that limit! Should you decide to rescue Missy you would not only be rescuing her, but you would be helping me rescue David from the streets as well. I can't do this without a safe place for Missy..THIS IS THE ONLY WAY DAVID WILL ACCEPT HELP! Knowing Missy is safe! I am sorry that this person has found themselves with this problem and very happy to hear that someone is willing to give him a place to live.

What I wonder is why he does not go back to work. Truck drivers can get jobs very easy, my  husband drives so have a good idea about this.

He just needs to renew his CDL and that should not be a big deal.  Yes he will need a truck to test on but if he goes to a company tells them he needs to renew and is willing to hire on most will make arraignments for him to test on one of theirs.

He can also hire on with one of the many companies who train you and they pay you at the same time and he will also get his CDL.  As he has already had a CDL those companies would have very little cost involved in the training and be willing to hire him.

There has to be more to this story than is told here. An OTR driver should easily be capable of earning close to $70,000 per year with no trouble at all and companies are desperate for drivers. I retired from that job 15 years ago and still have people asking me to drive.

I hope he gets whatever help he needs to be able to keep his dog with him and get back on the road if his health is still good.

If his 14 year old dog goes to a shelter the dog dies there or is euthanized ( aka murdered ). The dog would be miserable separated from it's human.

That is exactly why he will not take the housing offer- he will not do that to his dog... I dont know the person personally, but tthe person who sent me the post has had contact with him. Under NO circumstances will he bring his dog to a shelter.
