First I will say maybe I am beginning to know to much. I love GSD and also large dogs ( I seen both at this website). The lady that I am dealing with has been nothing but honest with me. I did some research prior to my choice, and found what I still think is an honest broker. We have lost a 16 year old family member (what you call a MUTT) and are looking for another dog that will be around for the same amount of time. Am I a GSD expert, Do I want a working dog, am I telling people he's AKA regestered, am I showing him. The answer is NO. I also know how some forums work, and its not pretty. Money is an issue (being millitary) but a long living pet is the number one issue. Again both mother and father are OFA cert, according to the website ( how do I check ?). and I will contact the breeder tomorrow and bring up some of these questions. Don't get me wrong I appreciate the info, I just a guy on a buddget that wants a good GSD (family member)

You can go to the OFA website and do a search on each dog... www.offa.org Most German Shepherds will live to be 11 or 12 years old, there are those rare individuals who make it to 13 or more... I lost a 12 and 13 yearold 2 years ago and an 11 year old last year.. Very few will make it as far into the teens as the dog you just lost.... so sorry for your loss.. Longevity is believed to be genetic, so ask that of the breeder too...... Good luck in your search

How can you be on a budget and still pay 1200 for a pet? OFA check. When you go to the OFA(orthopedic foundation for animals) page just type in the name of the parents in the box on the top of the page.

If only the grandfather to the puppy is listed on the OFA site then the father is not certified. No he can not be certified until he is 2 yrs old. what about the mother?

rhino, If you want a GSD pet or for working Andrew bred his wonderful dogs and Im pretty sure he will help you in any way to get you of what you want. I am recommending you to him because I had personally seen one of his dogs, the father and I must say that WOW! Hes gorgeous! His bitework is awesome! I will not send out his email on here but if you want you can send me an email and I will send you his email. If Andrew decides to post then that will be better :) I'm sure He wont over charge his puppies. He is what I call "outstanding" breeder.

On the Salhaus website it says that Monty only is Pre-lim'd good, which means he is not "certified" and cannot be until he is 2yrs by OFA. It does not mention anything about the Dam even being x-rayed. It says the Dam's Sire is x-rayed at fair. Which means that anyone could have evaluated the x-ray's, most likely it was her vet.(most would say that is not reliable). The Dam's Dam claims to be OFA fair however I could not pull it up on the OFA website. Also keep in mind that parents with good hips can throw pups with bad ones so every generation should be checked if they are breeding. Do not think it is okay if both the grand parents were X-rayed but the dam isn't. I am just trying to help clear up some infromation that you sounded unsure about. The best thing to do is talk to the breeder, because I just got this info from her website.

The info about the Dam was taken from Varuka. Her name was not mentioned here but she was the only dam with Monty pups on the site, forgive me if she's not the right Dam.

Rhino, I don't know how much you put down for a deposit but it might be worth losing it and chalk it up as experience. I can't believe what these people are charging for a puppy of such quality or lack thereof. I don't know if any of you saw this but here is the pricing for their dogs. *Our Guarantees & Pricing* PRICES: $800 CKC /$1200 AKC + Shipping (if shipping applies) Credit Cards Accepted Via PayPal And they swear by the dog food called "Nutra Nuggets" I believe that is the old house brand for the COSTCO Warehouse store. The quality is minimal and runs about 15 bucks a bag. Rhino, if you are looking for a nice house pet there are rescue operations that have dogs of better quality available for you to adopt. Usually less than $250.00 and they are spayed/neutered and have been temperment tested for family suitability. I wish you the best of luck and I'm sorry that you got caught up in such a messy situation. Birdy...
