You are right, sometimes we start a discussion about nonsense - whatever you want to do, just do it - the dog won´t care!

Only for the record: This was my "day off", and instead of cleaning the house I discussed the meaning of "working dog "

And those are not 'successful extended career ' teams. I thought we were talking sport, which includes club level trained an titled dogs. If all sport only means 'top level competition' , then the number of PSD s outnumbers 'sport dogs' and no way to make comparison...the high level competition dogs that are sussesful are few and far between.
As it is, there are more mediocre PSD and sport dogs than high achievers.
Again, i f one needs a guide dog, a top level sport dog will not work for that job. No one will die if a sport dog misses an article on a track.

Haha, and my excuse is I worked my dogs early this morning and then more later this afternoon...lots of time in between chores. :-)

Cleaning the house Meh, what's the point, it only gets dirty again.

Now there is no dog, it´s my own dirt

I have a brand new luxury model 4WD, the interior has been destroyed by the dogs and I have banged up the exterior.

The women around have attacked me over it, I am like that's why I bought a 4WD so I could knock it around....two different philosophical world views at play....who is right I ask you??

Don't get me wrong women are nice to look at and without them the place would be an ungodly mess but do they ever frikkin relax.

Sport vs Work to me is an End Result.... I truly think that the same dog that excels at sport, like IPO would also excel at LE or military use. And i dont mean taking a high level IPO dog and trying to dual purpose him but as a puppy the dog could have went down either training road. Both Sport and 'Real Work' dogs require the same excellent: genetics, temperament, presence of drives and stable nerves. This is why quality breeding stock is so important imo. As an example lest say that BLACKMAL and myself were looking for a new GSD's to bring up, him for Military and me for IPO (just using you as an example here not trying to make an assumption) its not so far fetched to think we would be looking for very similar qualities while bringing the pup up into young adult hood. neither of us want a week nerved dog or a dog that does not have the natural drives to bring him through the training. neither of us want to spend lots of time trying delevop character that the dog doesnt have in abundance naturally. I just want to put all that energy into Sport where he has other end goals, but the ingredients are pretty much the same
