Used to be in the olden days of respect for private property, cops would not have entered the yard with a dog in the way in a situation where there is no emergency...they would have waited for the owner to restrain the dog. After all, if the dog was such a treat as was claimed, it would have bayed up any intruder...doncha think?

He had no idea of knowing if there was/was not an emergency. You know how many people that post those signs don't even have a dog that will engage? TONS. Police can't assume because she has beware of dogs signs that she is taken care of in case of an intruder.

Then outlaw ownership of dogs....they are a danger to cops. Because that's where this country is headed.

I would suggest at least reading about what happened before making assumptions.

Joan, the owner had an alarm system. She was at work. Something triggered the alarm which caused the alarm company to call the cops, which they are required to do, or the alarm system is worthless. Her dogs were loose on the property, behind a fence. There was a warning notice on the gate about the dogs, but the sheriff's deputy was still required to enter to check out the alarm.

So what do you THINK was going to happen??

I still think she's a stupid, clueless bitch for exposing her dogs to the danger of police entering her property because the alarm system was triggered! I have friends who have an alarm system in their house. When they got a dog, they stopped using it. It's the ONLY sensilble thing to do if you've got a dog! :(

I only posted this as a warning with dogs and alarm systems cops are required to act on, not a cop bashing thread.

for all the cop knew there could have been a women in the process of being assaulted inside the home and every second would count.

sad situation but in this case, the point is here to bring awareness to this scenario.

I answer alarm systems all the time, 99.9999% are either technical faults or possums/cats....etc.

cost the owner $200 for every call out. the call comes from a outsourced monitor somewhere in India.

You're kidding...$200 per call? What if it's a genuine alarm? What Smile  Do they still have to pay?

Was the entire property surrounded by fence? No doubt, the owner was stupid having dogs where they might threaten the cops. Do the cops have a house key to enter a home if the door is locked. Because how else can they enter the home when the alarm is activated and no one answers the door. Maybe the alarm should also alert the home owner when they are not home, that way they can communicate to cops that no one is home.
