Reliya, that's not really too complicated. in short, look this way - for every living creature, self preservation instinct is a main instinct.
when the humans did domesticated dogs, there were some sort of deal - dogs must get rid of their fear of danger and in exchange the human have offered support and care for dogs. kind of cooperation.
you'll never see in wildernes the coyote, jackal, wolf... who could stubbornly stand their ground against bigger and stronger adversary, if they have chance to escape. contrary, even relatively small hunt dogs fearlessly going after much bigger and stronger objects.
german shepherd not differ in this. albeit isn't purposed for hunting, nevertheless need to be courageous, able to face danger and perform efficient defense against a threat.
aggressiveness isn't something, which can be classified as a standing alone instinct. it's a part of defense instinct, be it protecting own life, food, territory or cubs. the breeder's experiments did create some breeds with pronounced trait of aggressiveness but it's doesn't fit well beside a self-confidence and courageousness of the dog. sure, there do happens examples, sort of "berserk" of dog's world but they are extremely rare.
majority of the dogs, visually showing aggression, performs very poorly during real test and their urge to escape confrontation always kicks in shortly, after start of the test.

Baerenfangs Erbe, i'm not a breeder, to compete with you in here. neither i'm here to challenge your image of outstanding and advanced handler/owner/trainer of german shepherds.
yes, pretty obvious that my english isn't very good, but anyway, i want to ask you, please, take a break. i don't want to be involve into heated up conversation.

There is no heated conversation. I simply wanted you to understand that what you are describing is not desirable and simply guessed what you were trying to say so people can actually understand better. Because what you described is a Junkyarddog and fear biter.... so that is possibly the reason why you had trouble finding the right dog and ran into issues.

ValK, so what you want really isn't any different than what most people want in a GSD--a self-confident dog who defends both himself and the things that belong to him.

That really shouldn't have been too difficult to find.

i guess you're correct, people like to have such kind of strong confident dogs. but your conclusion do not includes variables of selfconfidence of each particular dog. there are equation - more lower self preservation instinct results in more higher dog's confidence. in turn this leading to more independent and less willing to obey dogs. in turn it's leading to challenges in owning and handling such dogs. and so on.
