Each year our vet conducts a super chem blood panel for our dog. Each year the platelet count comes back much higher than the normal range, but the dog has no obvious health problems. One of the new vets suggested that this value maybe normal for her. He says that high platelet counts are related to adrenaline release. It makes sense as our dog has about 90% defensive drive and low threshold with that. she has a short fuse but is very forward with it. any views on this possible relation between drive (adrenaline) and blood platelet count?

Interesting topic. I did some quick research, nih does have some published human studies about this. Google search, "adrenaline rush releases platelets?" You'll get what I saw.

Well, that would make sense, because platelets are what helps the blood clot. So, if you were anticipating being in a fight and getting injured, it makes sense the body would release platelets.
