Yeah, didn't see Bee's recent post. Exactly. I want to know if this pup is sable. That will answer a lot, for me at least.

OP's opening words : I had mated two black & tan.

He also said, same first post, that what he knows of the pedigree (ie not the incomplete pedigree recorded on PDB ), its all black & tan for generations.

So, if both statements are true, how can it be a sable ?

How does someone tell a difference in a blue or a black nose... without a side-by-side comparison?

It is harder, but since I live with one of each kind of nose, it has to do with the refraction of the light as it bounces off the nose. The blue nose will not be as deeply contrasted and shiny compared to the black nose, which I had previously described as seeming "dull". Where light is seen as a highlight bouncing off of a black nose, its leathered pigment is deep, and there is never a question that it isn't black.  The glare of a highlight is sharp and certain, and we will usually and collectively describe that effect as being "shiny".

Reliya, I am the admin who posted after you and I did look at the Bandit and Bandito pedigrees
Bandit Feetback Born: 01. December 2012
Bandito Feetback Born: 30. November 2012
These dogs are born in Serbia and I have been waiting for verification as to the correct spelling and correct date of birth before deleting one as a duplicate. I believe the correct one to be
Bandito Feetback Born: 30. November 2012 (the SV database has this)
But I wanted to be certain before deleting it. There are 2 siblings, one has the Dec DOB and the other has the Nov DOB. If you have positive proof as to which one is correct, and which DOB please send it to me and I will delete the duplicate one.  Or this member could send me a copy of the pedigree.
Thanks

You must've skipped some posts, Hundmutter. Because, someone who isn't sure what color a puppy is at birth likely could also make a mistake about black and tan vs. sable. I mean, I only have about 4 sable dogs that get called black and tan at the vet, groomer, etc. not to mention the oodles of threads we have wondering how a sable came from black and tans only to see the ped and see a parent incorrectly labeled. A patterned sable is often mislabeled black and tan.

Seen my share of blue noses (waaay different in a GSD than other breeds, btw) and newborn puppies and I am not saying that pup IS NOT blue but I sure as heck can't say it is from those vids. He looks absolutely not one bit like any of my blues.

Jenni78 , in the pictures of your blues, you can see that they have a lot of brown in them. The blues that I have seen had none, especially around the anus. They were like the pictures first posted, just a silvery color with a dull nose. Yours do not look like blues to me at all. I'm not saying that they are not, just that your blues do not look like the ones that my mother and brother owned.  He was from a sable female and a black and tan male but when older, looked like a solid black from a distance.

Fantom, I'm lost. What pups are you talking about? On my website? Or? I had one blue sable that had tan, of course. But the others were all blue except under tail and their feet, as they were blue and tan (dilute melanistic black and tans, really).

The ones that you submitted a picture of on Page 4 (correction Page3)

by Jenni78 on 15 July 2017 - 02:07 (userip: 72.169.97.7)

You keep saying "He looks absolutely not one bit like any of my blues"

So I keep agreeing that his pup does not look like your blues, but does look like the blues that my mother and brother had. Silvery, no brown, dull nose.

It will interesting in a few months to see what he looks like.

Fantom, I didn't post any photos on page 4. I did, however, post one on page 3, but it was not a blue puppy...

The puppy I posted is what I thought of when I saw the OP's vids- a sable puppy.
