Wow, really?

by beetree on 14 July 2017 - 15:07

We need to see the pup next to his siblings to be sure about the blue. There are differences within the blue range, too. I see a certain dullness in the nose leather that could indicate a blue but without the sibling comparison at this young age, it is hard to tell.

Please post a new picture that includes the blk & tan sibs. Thx.

Jenni78
Fantom sees what I do there is a silver tint to the hair and look at the nose features looks like a blue pup. It might be the lighting but definite different color and features than a black pup. It would be easier to tell if there were photos over a short video to see if it was actually a blue pup. The blues I have seen always show these different features at birth.

Sunsilver

Beetree, I said the same thing. Unfortunately, I think this pup is a singleton, according to the owner:
I had mated both parents black and tan....The result of the single pup is something different colour.

Oh...thanks SS, I missed the singleton part! Still, I would bet that, indeed, this is a blue pup. Perhaps a solid blue, too? Hard to get a good look for signs of tan, with the squiggly, newborn pictures.

The pedigree would be nice to examine for such possibilities.

The mothers pedigree tells us very little because there is nothing much there except for names. This is why the Ped Admins are requiring more information on the dogs so that it will be helpful in cases like this. To be honest, If I had just found this pedigree, I would have deleted her, the sire, dam and granddam..... as just a single name with no kennel name and nothing else is useless.
If you have any information, please fill in the pedigree or send the info to me including color of dogs, date of birth, breed book and registration number and I will enter it for you.
Also what is the sires name. Since you only said that he was a Bandit Feetback son, you are leaving out 25% of the genes, in the sires - dam.
Why not take pictures of the dog against a solid white background. That would make it more identifiable.

Hard to tell in that video but I'm thinking a blue or blue sable. Maybe...I'd love to see this pup in a few weeks....

I had a blue male in my first oops litter - and he was really blue when born. No mistaking him for any other color. Over time he lost the blueness and went to more of a steel blue grey with red tan on his legs. The unique part was if you pulled his hair backwards it was all white underneath. His eyes were also light (no color in the retina due to the blue gene).

In that same litter - I had 2 blue sable males. Both born a silver grey. Sable markings appeared later. One I gave to my brother, which I have back now (he's 11) due my brother unexpectedly passing away recently. His eyes are light, and his coat is a shade of red chocolate brown, the sable markings are a bluish black. When he was 1-2 years old his coat turned a greenish shade before shifting to the brown.

I have his sister who is a sable... dark eyes, black sable markings, silver/tan coat color.

Color genetics is fascinating stuff. :)
