juno, that dog was focussed upwarts from second one, both you and decoy should have noticed and make the dog focus on leg before let him engage

by Juno on 10 May 2019 - 20:05

Yup. The point was he was not focusing on sleeve rather the person.

juno:
Decoy was not wearing a suit and it was a mistake on my end.

it's actually mistake on decoy's part. dog did right and let's hope did teach some lesson to that decoy :)
mistake on your end is in what you did... trying to teach that dog to fight obvious equipment.
after all sleeve, regardless on leg or hand, still a sleeve.

by duke1965 on 11 May 2019 - 04:05

think he was looking for location where he expected the sleeve to be

by ValK on 11 May 2019 - 05:05

i think decoy's posture, (hanging/bending over dog in close proximity) most likely have been taken as a threat and main cause for dog's attention rather on him, than on sleeve.
add to that the stick in hand and you gave to dog fair reason to do what he did.

Thanks for your comments. Since my dog has matured he has become more civil and does not have fabric fetish. Both Decoy and I learned a lesson and never took things for granted with him.

by duke1965 on 11 May 2019 - 11:05

good luck with him as he sure looks like a fun dog to work with

Juno, your dog almost gave the decoy a free shave! I hope he continues to work well for you.

by Juno on 11 May 2019 - 12:05

Duke, he can be boneheaded and stubborn, and has to be reminded who the boss is but otherwise the best dog I have ever had. Really teaching me a lot in patience as intimidation and force does not work well with him as he just amps up and things go downhill from there. I have learned to be patient and things works a lot better.

break up exercises as much as possible, work in low drive, be patient and if nothing works take his airsupplie and be clear, avoid conflicts and fights ,and enjoy the rideWink Smile
