With pit type dogs, it's hard to say- the lines are very blurred. Is the dog registered? If not, really no way to tell.

The stafforshire terrier and the American Pit Bull terrier was pretty much the same breed just a different strain through the early to mid 20th century. Many historians state that a few American Pitt bull breeders tried to gain recognition for the APBT with the AKC in the 1970's but were rejected.  they turned around and was able to gain recognition for the same dogs under the title of Stafforshire Terrier. From that point the Stafforshires were bred for confirmation and no longer bred for dog fighting. During that time There wasn't any confirmation shows for APBT so the majority of the breeders during that time were active participants in dog fighting. It is sometimes hard to distinquish many of the bully breeds, but extremely hard to distinguish many staffs from some APBTs. I believe there is more variation in how an APBT looks than that of a Staff

You would need to look at a pedigree to know for sure . However, being that your dog has a rednose, it is probably a pit bull or pit bull cross. Many dogs today are pit bull amstaff crosses, at least the ones you see the most on the internet or on the street.
