Ok, here is something I'm not so good at.  Calculating percentages.  What is the formula for it?

Yesterday I was talking to another vet tech student and we were discussing GSDs, I was telling her about my import male and his relation to a VA1 Universal Sieger dog.  I do not know the exact percentage of my dog's pedigree in relations to the VA1 dog.

So, does anyone know the formula for this?

My male and the VA1 dog share the majority of their pedigree.  They both have the same sire, they both have the same maternal grandsire, and both of their maternal grand-dams have linebreeding on two dogs.  (One maternal grandam is linebred 4,3-4 on Uran Wildsteiger Land and has Mark v. h. Beck in the 3rd generation, the other grandam is 5,5-4 on Uran Wildsteiger Land and 4-4 on Mark v. h. Beck.)

So, they are more than just half-brothers, more than 75% "brothers"....what is their percentage?

No particular reason why I need to know this, I would just like to

A little over 75% brothers, however statistically they would not have inherited the same genes from the ancestors. Every animal gets 50% from each parent, but they also don't get 50% from each parent. What some kept others did not inherit.

In order to simplify here is an example, you can have littermates and
1/4 will be long coated,
1/4th will be long coat gene free
1/2 will be normal coated but long coat carriers.

Two long coats bred together will allways produce longcoats no matter how you line breed on normal coated ancestors of even if all ancestors were normal coated.

Brothers are not identical, unless identical twins.

I know it's practicly impossible to determine actual percentage of genetics in this case.  I'm just interested in the exact percentage of pedigree relation.

Agh...LOL, I know it's a little over 75%, I just want to know how much over 75%...and what the formula is for calculating that (so I can keep the formula on hand whenever I may need it in the future too.)

I know there is a formula out there for this.....there's a darn math formula for everything.

Thank you Ferrum :)
Ferrum calculated that my old boy shares 81.25% of his 6 generation pedigree with VA1 Bazi v. Urbecke.  (with littermates Quando and Quana counted as the same dog.)
