"Working / Show lines really do matter."
Well in America they apparently do, Lleigh. I would not shout that theory/distinction too loudly elsewhere on the planet !

I have a working line and show line, and yes, HUGE difference! Both can work, and have good drives, but the working line is SO much more muscular and agile!

I knew that it would be a different experience, but it is one thing to “know” and a whole other to actually live it. Klyde is turning 10 here next week and has strong nerves, crazy ball drive but sleeps on the couch most of the day. 😉 He was this way even as a young guy. Ace is go go go, chase chase chase bark.. He is rather forward, not phased by anything so far and wicked smart. Going to learn a lot from this guy. Oh his mom is out of a Van Den huevel/Reeboch combo.

My last dog had strong nerves, crazy ball drive ... and an Off switch. He was still like that age 10, as your dog. He was Show bred in the UK, based on German stock. That's Taz in my little avatar picture ^. (Hanging onto his ball !)  He did not strike me as anything particularly out of the ordinary ...

There are good dogs and bad in the GSD breed, in every Line and every country.

😊.....Leigh sounds like you have a very nice dog!

Hundmutter, I agree 100%. I have had a few (all great) GSD’s in my time. They have all been similar, until Ace came along. He just has a hardness to him that I have heard about but never seen for myself.

Most people don't know that GSD's aren't always black and tan. I have had people INSIST my dogs were mixes. I've been asked if they had lab or wolf in them most commonly. I even had 2 people on separate occasions ask if my old DDR girl was a Scottish Terrier. Um... what?!

Um, WHAT ??? Did these persons ever tell you, Dawulf, WHY they thought your dog might be a Scottie ? Do you usually associate with the completely mad ?

Y'know, what I just love about these sorts of stupid remarks is that the people inevitably want to tell you, the dog's owner, that the dog IS such-and-such, they never just ask !

Dawulf. Ha Ha Ha Scottish Terrier. 🤣 That’s the craziest one I’ve ever heard.
