I recently got the license renewal form for the kennel I sold back in January. Since the envelope didn't say exactly what it was, I opened it up and read it.

I noticed one major change for the requirements. There are 2 types of police screening here in Ontario. One is a criminal records screen. The second, a far more comprehensive screening, is the vulnerable sector screen, which is required for people who work with the elderly and infirm (nurses and other medical professionals are required to get this) and children (teachers also need this of course).

Now, it's required for kennel owners, too, because animals have no voice. Good on ya, Bradford-West Gwillimbury!!  Teeth Smile  Thumbs Up

I think this is good. Too many people abuse animals that are dependent on them.

It's good from the animals' POV, but it's also all
good IMO for the clients. Most will probably be
mature solvent sensible adults, but you never
know when you might get somebody old & frail,
or in some way mentally disturbed, or under-age,
rock up & require your services to board their
pet. The more equipped you are to deal with them
(and the more such vetting shows that you ARE
equipped and safe) the better ? True of most people
offering any sort of commercial service, I would think.

I looked up the screening, and mainly what it does is expose people who may have committed an offence, especially a sexual offence, and been pardoned for it. The (existing) criminal record check would catch anyone accused of abusing a person or an animal.

Hundmutter, I sent you a PM.
