Natasha, please do post your evidence for this claim.

Since I am the ‘friend’ in question here, I suspect it would behoove me to answer given that I don’t have a dog in the race. Jenn did indeed refund me my deposit and I am eternally grateful. When you’re a SAR handler spending enormous amounts of money on gear and training and transport and you’re not a doctor or millionaire money is tight. Really tight. So I’m very grateful for that. I did not expect or request it. HOWEVER! I’m kind of disturbed that I and my business transactions are being brought into this as some sort of evidence. My personal affairs are not internet fodder. So now, unfortunately, I’ll lay out the whole story on my part.
Now. Let ME clear some things up. Jill is not a friend. She is a random handler whom I messaged when I was starting my search for my next prospect. I’d heard some very uncomplimentary things about Jenn in the working world, but I’d also noticed that many of the Mals in SAR in Canada are Jenn’s dogs and wanted to know what the scoop was, so when I noticed Jill was working a Malinger dog and was a longtime handler for certain groups I trust I asked her about them via facebook. Jill gave me an absolutely glowing recommendation. Based on that, I contacted Jenn. At that point the red flags started to pile up, and I ignored them. She didn’t check into my offer of references. Gave me a ‘yup we can have a puppy for you’. Didn’t ask more questions about my background. Didn’t check with my head trainer, And so on and so forth. AND, note, didn’t provide the contract before I sent the deposit. So I went ahead even against the advice of my mentor and paid a deposit, because the videos I’d seen were very nice and the handlers seemed to love their dogs. Then I met a handler (not Jill!) and guess what, that handler was having issues getting reg papers. I started meeting other dogs from the kennel and noted some concerning traits and inconsistencies. And then finally I saw the contract (after requesting it a couple times it still had not been sent, and she indeed never sent it to me, I saw a copy of another owner’s.). And that contract is unsuitable in guarantee or restrictions for any working handler. YES. This handler’s dog was also sold as a pet. At that point I decided to cut my losses and find a different breeder and didn’t bother pushing Jenn for more communication. Hence why I was shocked but grateful when she offered a refund. And may I just say my contacts with other breeders have been a breath of fresh air. They want to know who I am, they want to know exactly what I can handle, they’ve had convos with my head trainer, me, my other trainers, my mentor, all about what kind of puppy might suit me best, and they’ve eliminated a few ideas and put forth a few others all based on making sure this is a successful match for me. Their communication has been quick and detailed, they have volunteered all health testing and genetic information, they have been completely upfront about any issues. Even the ones I have not gone with have been a completely different experience. Furthermore, they have FULL health guarantees against ALL genetic diseases, without a bunch of qualifications voiding contract, and it’s fully understood this is a working prospect. It’s fabulous! I’m so pleased! And let’s be frank…..part of that Malinger contract states that the dog can never be in an enclosed room with a smoker. Good luck navigating around the working dog world for a lifetime and avoiding such. Part of the contract also states that excessive exercise will render the contract null and void, but what excessive exercise is was never stated. How should any working handler be expected to do their job on surfaces if they are never sure what is going to go against contract? We are careful but we push our dogs much harder than the general public. Balanced methodology? In other words, if the dog is too soft and I didn’t use a prong collar on it are there grounds for charging me $1500? Who’s to decide whether I did due diligence or not? Food approved by the kennel? What happens if I’m up north working a callout and purina is all that’s available for a couple weeks? Or tied unattended? Our TEST leaves the dog for five minutes in an out of sight stay. Last time I did one a truck came around the corner at my girl. Our dogs are constantly off leash, constantly in danger. That is the life we lead. Subject to negligence? What does that even mean? To the pet owners in my city I’m negligent and abusive for using an e collar on my working dog. How am I to know what is considered ok and what isn’t? Lastly, it’s worth noting that the majority of the Mal world does not have nice things to say about Malinger. Had I listened in the first place instead of assuming that they must all be angry people out to get others, I could have saved a lot of headache. Just because someone says unpleasant things doesn’t mean they are untrue. I don’t have any quarrel with people and wouldn’t have said anything if someone.... whoever this Dawn is, hadn’t decided to use me as an example. And I refuse to be one.
So with all that….next time you want to try to drag someone like me into an argument, think very carefully. It might come back to bite you in the butt!

And ladies, if you don't like your real names posted, I suggest you take a hard look at your own behavior above, and consider that turnabout is fair play. Good luck to you in your dealings with Jennifer Segal.

I don’t care that you know my full name or choose to try and do some turnabout. You are not a nice person. .
There so many points to comment on, I don’t where to start. First nice job getting the admin to edit my post ... well played!!! It’s not like I posted your birthday or something personal lol
Doesn’t change the facts that you are in fact, being vindictive and Spiteful.
I am not some random “Jenn” follower, she has been my friend for over 30 years. I know her very well and the stuff you are saying and all the people you are contacting is so far out in left field it’s hard to imagine someone could be as nasty as you are being.
To the “ friend” I’m sorry I don’t know your name and my Intentions were not to pull you into somewhere you did not want to be, I simply was making a point that Jennifer doesn’t “steal deposits “ and the OP knows that.
How can you guarantee a “prospect” will turn into a working dog? In case you are unfamiliar with the definition of prospect here it is
noun (ˈprɒspɛkt) (sometimes plural) a probability or chance for future success, esp as based on present work or aptitudea good job with prospects. a vision of the future; what is foreseen; expectationshe was excited at the prospect of living in London; unemployment presents a grim prospect.
So when a young dog or a puppy is sold and it is not yet trained it’s not by definition a “working dog” and if it’s not a working dog it’s a pet ..... so what’s the issue ???

Enough of this back and forth crap.
The topic should be dropped as the op's main claim has been decided by the AKC and she has her papers.
The op only talked about her experience and her contract, others have started the bad mouthing and needs to stop.
I do not want or need any of you to comment on this post, just drop it.

Anyway. I have both CKC and AKC papers on my dogs now which is all I ever wanted when this entire dispute started. It was the breeder's obligation according to Canadian law to provide them, but I had to go to great lengths to get them from the breeder who tried to hold them hostage so I would sign an inappropriate contract. It's as simple as that.
