With regard to the tracking, here's the response I got when I asked someone who is there about those scores on the first day.

I asked: "XXXX, heard anything about the tracking situation? So far, I count 17 scores under 50 points...are some tracks in a sewer drainfield??"

Their reply: "This is what has been reported to me by some competitors....... The field conditions are super nice.... the track laying is super light (that means very normal walking pace) and the footprints at the turns are wider apart so the dogs are all having trouble at the turns .... the turns are almost step offs ( they are not full stepoffs ) they are almost stepoffs .... they would qualify at near normal pace footsteps.... this means that the dogs have to be really calm when they lose the scent and be able to work that corner without stressing.... plus there was wind on everyday so far so with the lightly laid track and the wider footsteps and the difficult corners....any dog that did not know how to handle scent loss never had a chance."

So it seems the tracking conditions were quite good--and the tracks were laid to be scent tracks , not trail maps, forcing the dogs to work harder, pay closer attention and know how to problem-solve on the corners, especially with the wind in play.  As it should be for a World Championship, IMO.

Re Debby v Eisernen Kreuz, she's not out of it--granted, she'll be doing her OB and protection phases back-to-back, with less than 2 hours in between, but it's nothing the dog probably hasn't done before, and she ought to be pretty well rested. Some bitches become more intense in their bitework when they're in season, so if she's that type, her protection phase could really be spectacular!

I'm rooting for Debby Eisernen Kreuz to pull at least 91 in Phase C, and walk away with the top place...it would be awesome for a bitch to be the WUSV champion this year!!

SHE DID IT!!!

THE 2017 WUSV CHAMPION IS A BITCH, ONE IN HEAT NO LESS--DEBBY VON EISERNEN KREUZ, 94 POINTS IN PHASE C!!!

Not only that, but another of the bitches in heat, Pebbles van Scalindjo, earned 93 points in her phase C, to put her in 9th place in the individual standings with a total of 277.

Who says bitches in heat can't get the job done?

Wow!! That's AMAZING! Bitch wins and 4 out of top 10 were females with TWO in heat no less!!! Go Girls!!!!! Debby really was in a class by herself if you look at scores....they were tight and her winning margin looks pretty signficicant! Congrats to her and her connections! Also, huge congrats to ALL competitors and teams!!

Thanks, Hexe, for your contributions!!!

That should open the eyes of those who believe that it takes dogs' balls to excel in protection !

Congratulations to a great bitch! Debbie von Eizernen Kreuz !
