Botcher harness, nothing to do with speed, just a tool used to keep the leash between the dogs legs. It's the only harness the dog can wear for tracking during trial. The part around the stomach doesn't move, it just clips to itself and stays put and a line runs up the dog's underbelly and clips onto the collar. There is basically zero corrective value to the harness itself.

Are you relaying the food onto the track after he's done the first one?

Also, what is the reason for running the dog over the same track twice?

by joanro on 02 June 2017 - 17:06

No, I do not re-lay the track. Just before he gets to the end of the track, I pick him up, praise, heel around to the start. Sit four feet from start, and give tracking command.

There is always a few pieces of bait that he missed on the first go.
I like to run the track a second time because ;

not so much bait so he must work harder for reward,

and follow the track deeper to get any leftovers.

Compared to two days ago when the second run showed he learned about tracking into a corner, this morning he had two corners and nailed them the first go.

Rerunning the track helps the dog correct any mistake he made on the initial run.

The track this morning was aged about 45 minutes.

Here's another one...it's alright...there were only 3 pieces of food on the track, and somehow he got them all the first time through. He also had to navigate the fact that the length of the grass changed twice on him and somehow he managed to not even slow down a second due to it. At the end, he indicated on some article looking thing, not sure if that's right but he seemed to know what he was doing. I didn't feel the need to let him rerun the track as he seemed to do it pretty well the first time.

Why the sarcasm?

How long has the dog been in training? This is exactly the third track my dog has ever been on.

Why the mocking other's dogs?

I know what 'article looking' things are. Did who ever trained the dog in your video expect the dog to

'indicate on some article looking thing' the third track the dog ever worked?

You asked me about my tracking with my dog, and the best you can respond is with sarcasm and mockery?

Now go whine to the mods. From now on, no more answering your questions, you have no respect for anyone on this board, IMO.

by Bavarian Wagon on 02 June 2017 - 20:06

Who's mocking? I'm being serious. Why would you think I'm being sarcastic?

You decided to talk about how my first track was super easy...so I tried to show you how he does on a track more up to your standard.

by joanro on 02 June 2017 - 20:06

So you got your feelings hurt. Well, you didn't say that was your dog tunnel tracking. It no knock on the dog, but every one who ever trained a dog to track, knows that a track like the one in your first video is a piece of cake and doesn't take much concentration for a dog to follow.

I asked you some questions in the above post. You didn't answer them. You want to compare a young dog that's been tracked three times in his life with a dog that has been started on articles....if you want to be fair, answer my questions, or else post training videos of a dog that has not even been tracking for a week.

There are many ways to train, I'm showing how I train my dogs, you choose to mock with statements like' some article looking thing'....what a stupid comment. You don't want t talk about training, you want to be an azzhat.

by Bavarian Wagon on 02 June 2017 - 21:06

Again...you seem to believe you're the only one that can criticize on this forum. Someone says something about your dog or a dog from your breeding and you go off the deep end. I posted a video and your first response is how easy it is to do.

I didn't say anything about your dog...you keep ripping mine.

If it's easy...get out there with your dog and do it. Also, make sure the nose stays to the ground so that the dog doesn't lose any points like he would in that "easy IPO1" you're going to get. I'll just wait for you to come back with the whole 70 points is just as good as 98 comment though.

I discuss things just fine...you're the one that always resorts to name calling. Like you've done twice already on this page.

I don't count how many times I do things because I ACTUALLY TRAIN MY DOG MORE THAN ONCE IN IT'S LIFE. Novel concept right? If you want a dog to succeed you do it more? Wow. Dogs been with me for a year. The only people that get impressed by your limited training are people that really don't know any better. You need to tell stories and count training sessions because you know the product presented in the video isn't that great. Finished product is all that should matter, but not on this forum, and not in this country. Wow! Dog bit sleeve after one session! Amazing! That's easily equivalent to an IPO3 at a national level!

The video I posted was a test of this forum, and you passed with flying colors. I knew that no matter what I posted, no matter how good the work, it wouldn't be good enough for anyone. And a dog that's tracked twice in it's life would still be considered better. If I posted the rest of the things my dog knows...that would also get ripped to pieces because you in particular lack any and all ability to stay objective and actually admit that someone is doing something better than you.
