A gal in my neighboring SchH club, Marcia Govednik, titled her Airedale Ferris to SchH3, IPO3, FH, RH1, and another, Fee to BH.  Then she had some real bad luck, Fee passed away suddenly one afternoon, and a few months later Marcia found out Ferris had cancer.

Ferris was a nice dog with a full firm grip.  His SchH career was cut short from lymes disease, so she did a lot of tracking with him the last few years.  Fee had progressed to biting a hard sleeve when she died.

Both were slow maturing as compared to a GSD.

After training a couple of GSD's I had the privilege of raising a female Airdale Terrier puppy: "Heike Vom Bungalow" in Germany in the late 1970's. We had a great time achieving the Sch 1 title.
She was a wonderful dog, full of life and great to work with. We were a member of a Terrier club that had several SchH 3 titled Airedales. I can only recommend the breed. Definetly needs different training approach from GSD. Especially the obedience part -  Heike would learn twice as fst as GSD's and had lots of fun swithich to signed commands cause she got bored with the verbal quickly. Highly reccomend the Airdale.

I know some breeders who breeds working-line of airedale. All of them are used for schutzhund.
I have Neck von Erikson - he is very good dog. We don't make schutzhund, but mondioring :-)
